- Developers presented permission to operate natural gas turbines on the Stargate site in Abilene, Texas.
- The combined turbine capacity is 360 MW, part of the Power Stargate data centers.
- This is still a lot of electricity – enough to empower 90,000 houses in Texas.
Developers of the Stargate Project Data Center in Abilene, Texas, plan to build a natural gas factory in the site, according to public records revised by Business Insider.
Openai, Oracle and Softbank have so far provided little details on the potential use of Stargate’s energy, a joint venture formed to spend $ 500 billion on the AI infrastructure in the US and was announced last week from the house of White.
Records said that once it worked, the plant can produce up to 360.5 megawatts of energy at any time, up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. A MW of electricity can strengthen 250 residential customers during peak hours, said Texas Electrical Reliability Council. This means that 360.5 MW is enough to empower 90,000 houses in Texas – approximately double the amount of families in Abilene, according to the US Census Bureau.
These permit applications were presented to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality by an advisory firm that worked on behalf of he Cloud Startup Crusoe. Crusoe is the owner of Project Ledicrous, a $ 1.1 billion database project in Abilene widely thought to be the first location of Stargate.
An initial application to allow 10 natural gas turbines of the simple cycle under title V of the Clean Air Act-in a site that shares an address with the ridiculous project is under consideration by TCEQ.
The app said the object that houses turbines will be used for “primary power and reserve” for “data centers and computing.” Its use will be “just in place”, which means turbines generated power will not be available to the network.
Half of the turbine models come from GE Vernova, and the other half come from solar turbines, a branch of Caterpillar Inc. Turbines are created to be installed and functioned quickly, and some GE models can be up and operate in as much as two weeks, the company has said in marketing materials.
A permit that allows for oil reserve generators to run in the site is already in force.
The development of the plant is expected to cost half a billion dollars, said a city document viewed by BI.
Andrew Schmitt, a spokesman for Crusoe, the beginning of the development of the ridiculous project, refused to comment on the record for the natural gas plant. He led BI to the company’s previous comments on site power, which “includes as renewable resources locally and abroad, including surrounding developments and a large -scale large solar installation . ”
Openai and Oracle did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
Stargate will need a lot of power
Morgan Stanley analysts on Friday estimated that the entire Stargate project would require about 15 Gigawatts.
This amount of power will spread to numerous countries, though the number of Stargate countries and how many power will each use is not known publicly. Some media reports and financial analysts have shown that Stargate pages may have a 5 GW energy demand, a much -drawn by a document reportedly set up by Openai Sam Altman’s CEO in Biden administration, reported for the first time from Bloomberg.
If this is the case, then 360.5 MW, the capacity of natural gas turbines in the ridiculous project will constitute a small fraction – less than 1% – how much power will eventually need the page.
Some of this power will come from a substation, allowing the ridiculous project to attract energy from the local electricity network. The data center is located on the land owned by Energy Tech Lancium, which has built a 200 MW substation on the site, said a spokesman for the Business Insider company. The company’s website said it plans to increase the capacity to five times the amount in 2025.
The competition to develop the infrastructure has made the demand for electricity in the SH.BA increase dramatically for the first time in two decades. The use of electricity in the data center can be tripled in the US by 2028, according to the latest report by the Energy Department.
Deepseek’s latest departure has raised questions about the expense of he in the US infrastructure, as the Chinese model is 20 to 40 times cheaper than that of Openai and can work more efficiently with fewer chips .
